Forestry Technician

H W Forestry Ltd a part of the Western Bio-Energy Group supplies forest management advice and consultancy services to a broad range of clients across Wales. Due to continued growth, we require a Forestry Technician to join our team based in WBE Ltd, Margam, Neath Port Talbot.
What you will do:
· Woodland Creation Planning– Support the work of our Woodland Creation Manager by drafting woodland creation plans as per their direction and producing woodland creation maps on our GIS system. Arrange all pre-application requests for clients.
· Woodland Creation Grant applications – Tracking and reporting on progress of clients Woodland Creation Grant applications via the Rural Payments Wales portal and undertaking appropriate action as required. Claim grants and keep all parties informed of progress
· Woodland Creation Consultation – Carry out all consultation required by the woodland creation process within required timescales, including contact with neighbours.
· Woodland Carbon Code – You will be the point of contact as Carbon Developer for H W Forestry, responsible for registration, validation and verification for clients and provide woodland carbon estimates for project planning purposes.
· Data Management (GIS) – Maintain our GIS data set, ensuring data is up to date, error free and current.
· Costing and Estimating– Maintenance of costing models and pricing within our accounting system. Preparing cost estimates for work as per professional staff requests. Issue purchase orders and work orders to our contracting teams and maintain all pesticide records.
· Harvesting and Marketing – Responsible for conducting / arranging pre-sales Inventory and preparation of parcels for tender as per Forest Managers requirements. Receive all tenders and administer clients’ sales to contract completion.
· Tree Safety – Support the work of our Tree Manager by maintaining Tree Safety Data in our GIS and prepare draft Tree Hazard assessment reports as per the Tree Managers direction. Conduct Level 4 tree inspection on client’s properties.
We are looking for someone to join us who is highly motivated and wants to develop their technical skill set working closely with very experienced professionals. You will need good communication skills and the ability to engage with clients, regulatory bodies and other professionals with confidence and clarity. You will need to be comfortable to take on multiple tasks and manage competing demands for your time. In addition to this you will ideally have:
· Appropriate academic/technical qualifications and experience
· Experience providing technical support in a regulatory or land related field
· An understanding of current forestry practice and the woodland carbon code
